WORLD WILDLIFE FUND (WWF) WWF is primarily focused upon saving endangered species (in the wild) from extinction. To do this, however, usually involves preserving NATURAL HABITATS of sufficient size -- which means protecting other species as well. http://www.worldwildlife.org (U.S.A.) http://www.wwf.org/ (Global) THE SIERRA CLUB One of the first of the modern American environmental groups, THE SIERRA CLUB was originally founded by hikers, and other fans of the outdoors, in order to protect certain undeveloped lands of California. The group has since grown into a NATIONAL organization with a GLOBAL agenda, concerned with preserving wilderness and wildlife -- AND human life -- through action by governments, corporations and individuals. THE NATURAL RESOURCES DEFENSE COUNCIL (NRDC) "Scrappier" than the average environmental group, the NRDC supports preservation of undeveloped land but EMPHASIZES reducing pollution in areas that are already developed. The NRDC advocates various regulatory initiatives, often involving land use and/or energy use, in order to achieve this result. THE CONCORD COALITION THE CONCORD COALITION was co-founded by former Senator Paul Tsongas (D-MA), whom Don supported for President in 1992. The Executive Director is Martha Phillips, for whom Don worked in his first job on Capitol Hill. Concord presses for a balanced Federal budget -- AND an end to the current practice of using the large but temporary SOCIAL SECURITY surplus to make the entire government’s budget LOOK balanced. The Coalition opposes BOTH large tax cuts AND large spending increases while the "real" Federal budget is hemorrhaging massive red ink. http://www.concordcoalition.org/ PARENTS AND FRIENDS OF LESBIANS AND GAYS (PFLAG) Primarily concerned with advocacy and education, PFLAG is composed mostly of heterosexual people who support equal rights for lesbian, gay and bisexual people.
